Real Estate Insight ("we", "us") runs realestateinsight.com.au. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and password (stored only as a one-way hash). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and a Google account ID.
- What you save: the properties and analysis inputs you save, such as addresses, prices, loan details, incomes and ownership shares, plus your default settings.
- Sign-in records: when you log in, the IP address, browser and device type, so we can spot unusual activity on your account.
- Messages: anything you send us through the contact form or by email.
- Listings you import with our browser extension: when you click its button, the listing's details (address, price, property type and size, and any rent, strata or rates the description mentions), the listing's web address, and your IP address and browser type. We keep this for 7 days so the link that opens your analysis works, then delete it. If you save the analysis, the listing link and details are saved with it. The extension doesn't read your browsing history, cookies or anything else in your browser.
- Usage data: pages visited and how the site is used, collected with Google Analytics through cookies. It isn't linked to your account.
You can use the calculator without an account. Analyses you don't save aren't stored against you.
How we use it
- To run your account and show you your saved properties.
- To send account emails, such as a welcome email or password reset.
- If you opt in, to tell you when rule changes affect your saved properties. You can switch this off in Settings or from any email.
- To answer your enquiries, keep the site secure and work out how to improve it.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the site. They only get the information they need to provide their service:
- Amazon Web Services: hosting and database, in Sydney.
- Brevo: sending our emails.
- Google: Analytics, sign-in with Google, reCAPTCHA spam protection and address lookup.
Google may process information outside Australia, including in the United States. If you open a share link to an analysis, the owner has chosen to make that page viewable by anyone with the link.
Storage and security
Your account and saved properties are stored on servers in Australia. Connections are encrypted, passwords are hashed and access to our systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password you don't use elsewhere.
Your choices
- See and correct your details in Settings.
- Delete your account and everything saved in it from Settings at any time. Deletion is permanent.
- Block or clear cookies in your browser, or use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on.
- Ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
