Chrome extension · free
From listing to full analysis in one click
Browsing realestate.com.au or Domain? Click the button on any listing and it opens here with the price, rent, strata and rates already filled in. No retyping, no copying addresses.
Version 2.0.0 · Chrome, Edge and Brave on desktop · takes about a minute to set up
What it reads
Everything on the listing that changes the numbers
It reads the same details you see on the page, from the data the page loads with, and puts each one where the calculator needs it.
Address and state
Sets the right stamp duty, land tax, grants and first home buyer rules for that state and postcode.
Price, even when it's a range
A listed price, or the middle of a range like "$1.7m – $1.87m". On Victorian listings with no price, it uses the indicative range from the statement of information.
Type, and whether it's new
House, apartment, townhouse or land, and whether it's brand new or off the plan. That decides duty concessions and depreciation.
Rent
The advertised rent on a rental listing. On a sale listing, a current lease or the agent's rental estimate if the description quotes one.
Strata, council and water
Pulled from the description and turned into a yearly figure, whether the agent wrote "$538 per quarter" or "$978PA". If no period is given, it tells you rather than guessing.
Beds, baths, cars and land
Shown with your analysis and saved with the property, so you can compare like with like later.
Hidden price? Plenty of agents hide it. You'll be told, and on Domain you'll see the search price the listing is filed under, marked as rough. Type your own figure in the popup or on the next page.
Install
Set up in about a minute
It isn't on the Chrome Web Store, so you add it yourself. Five steps, and you only do it once.
Download the zip-
1
Download the zip
One small file, about 40 KB. Nothing installs yet.
-
2
Unzip it
Right-click the file and choose Extract All (Mac: double-click). You get a folder called real-estate-insight-extension. Keep it somewhere it won't be tidied away, like Documents, because Chrome runs the extension from that folder.
-
3
Turn on developer mode
Paste chrome://extensions into the address bar and switch on Developer mode, top right. In Edge it's edge://extensions, in Brave brave://extensions.
chrome://extensions -
4
Click Load unpacked
Choose the real-estate-insight-extension folder (the one with manifest.json inside). The Real Estate Insight card appears.
-
5
Pin it
Click the puzzle-piece icon next to the address bar and pin Real Estate Insight, so its button is always one click away.
Using it
Two ways in
The button on the page. On any listing on realestate.com.au or domain.com.au, a small Analyse this property button sits bottom right. Click it and the analysis opens in a new tab. Rather not see it? Hide it from the popup.
The toolbar button. Click the Real Estate Insight icon to see what was read before you send it. You can change the price, choose whether you're buying to invest or to live in, then open the analysis. It also works on other listing sites, such as agency websites, with fewer details, so check them.
Signed in? Save the analysis to your account from there, and the listing link and details are saved with it.
Privacy, plainly
It reads the listing, nothing else
- It runs on realestate.com.au and domain.com.au listing pages. Anywhere else, only when you click its toolbar button.
- It never reads your browsing history, passwords, cookies or anything you type.
- Listing details are sent to us only when you click, so we can open the analysis. We delete them after 7 days.
- No ads, no tracking and no third-party code inside the extension. You can read every line in the zip.
More detail in our privacy policy.
Updating
When a new version is out, the toolbar icon shows NEW. Download the zip again, unzip it over your existing folder (replace the files), then click the reload arrow on the Real Estate Insight card in chrome://extensions.
Current version: 2.0.0.
Questions
- Why isn't it on the Chrome Web Store?
- Not yet. Loading it yourself takes a minute, and you can open the folder and read the code before you do.
- Does it work on my phone or iPad?
- No. Mobile browsers don't run extensions. On a phone, use the calculator directly.
- Chrome points out that developer mode is on. Is that a problem?
- No. It's Chrome noting that an extension was added outside the Web Store. Keep developer mode on while you use it.
- A listing came across wrong. What now?
- Fix it on the analysis page; everything is editable. Then tell us the listing link and we'll sort out the extension.
Stop retyping listings
