How we write, check and correct

Money decisions deserve numbers you can check. Here's how our pages are made and kept right.

Numbers come from the engine, not from prose

Every figure on a calculator or guide comes from our calculation engine or from a primary source: legislation, a state revenue office, the ATO, Treasury or the RBA. Worked examples are produced by running the engine, and the engine's results are tested automatically against Treasury's published examples. See our methodology.

Sources and dates

Each page lists the sources it relies on and shows when it was last reviewed. A page's review date only changes when its content changes. When a rule is still a draft, such as the CGT apportioning determination or the definition of a new residential dwelling, we say so on the page.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help draft explanatory text and code. They never decide a figure: every rate, threshold and calculation comes from the sources above, and every page is checked against them before it's published.

Independence

Real Estate Insight is free and takes no commissions or referral fees from lenders, brokers, buyer's agents, developers or real estate agents. No one pays to appear on, or influence, any page. If that ever changes, we'll disclose it on the page concerned before it happens.

General information only

Our calculators and guides are general information. They aren't financial product advice, credit assistance, legal advice or a tax agent service, and they don't take your personal circumstances into account. We aren't a registered tax agent. For decisions, talk to a registered tax agent, a licensed adviser or a broker.

Corrections

If you find a mistake, tell us. We'll check it against the source, fix it, and record the change in the changelog with the date.
